A Springtime Stay at
Wyndham Grand Costa del Sol
Spring on the Costa del Sol is a time of warm sunshine, fresh sea
breezes, and the soft golden light that gives the region its name. At the
heart of this experience sits the Wyndham Grand Costa del Sol, a resort
that blends space, comfort, and 昀椀ve-star service with the laid-back
charm of southern Spain.
Located near the town of La Cala de Mijas, this expansive resort o昀昀ers a
sense of freedom: large apartments with private terraces, Mediterranean
views, and the kind of self-catering-meets-luxury-hotel convenience that
suits couples, families, and solo travellers alike. Our stay in a Deluxe
Two Bedroom San Diego Suite with Hot Tub was, quite simply, the
perfect base for a spring break.
The suite itself was beautifully appointed: two bedrooms, two full
bathrooms plus a shower room, a spacious living area and dining space,
and a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher. Outside, the private
terrace featured comfortable loungers and a bubbling hot tub with views
of the glistening sea beyond. It was peaceful and private — a slice of
garden sanctuary just a short stroll from the main pool and amenities.
The resort itself o昀昀ers an array of restaurants and bars, including the
Grand Lounge, Safari Restaurant, and a stylish Gin Bar. The gym is well
equipped, and during high season, guests can enjoy outdoor massage
areas, treatment rooms, kids’ clubs, adult-only pool parties, and
organised excursions. There are also yoga and 昀椀tness classes, tennis
courts, and a full guest service centre — which includes 24-hour
reception, concierge, and even a doctor on-site during daytime hours.
Exploring the region is easy thanks to the resort’s central location. Taxis
are simple to book, Ubers are widely available, and guests can also rent
a car through the on-site team at Autos Lido. Cars are delivered and
collected directly from the resort.
Nearby, the whitewashed village of Mijas Pueblo sits in the hills with
昀氀ower-lined cobbled streets, small art galleries, and cosy tapas bars.
On Wednesdays and Saturdays at 12.00, guests can catch a traditional
Flamenco performance in the main square — a free and joyful cultural
experience.
Down on the coast, La Cala de Mijas o昀昀ers a broad sandy beach, wooden
boardwalk, and charming seafront restaurants. During the warmer
months, Unico Beach Club becomes a hotspot for sunloungers, cocktails,
and stylish people-watching. Further west, Fuengirola o昀昀ers a livelier
scene — with its long seafront promenade, La Plaza de los Chinorros,
street performers, and the easy connection via train to Málaga city and
airport.
Málaga itself is a must-see. In just 25 minutes by car or 40 minutes by
train, guests can explore the historic centre, Picasso Museum, El Pimpi
tapas bar, and the city’s gra昀케ti-昀椀lled Soho district. Rooftop bars like
Lolita (on top of the Only You Hotel) or Terraza de Valeria o昀昀er magical
sunset views over the port. For day-trippers, the main train station also
connects visitors to Córdoba, Granada and Seville.
For food lovers, the region delivers in spades. From Michelin
restaurants to humble beachside chiringuitos, every meal is seasoned
with sunshine. Some of our personal favourites include a visit to the
theatre-restaurant of Antonio Banderas (Tercer Acto) and the historic
Antigua Casa de Guardia wine bar, where sweet wines are served from
barrels and bills are chalked onto the counter.
Spring is also a wonderful time to hike the nearby hills, explore Mijas on
foot, or even book a day trip to El Chorro to walk the breathtaking
Caminito del Rey pathway through gorges and lakes. A little further
a昀椀eld, the sand dunes of Bolonia Beach near Tarifa o昀昀er a wilder,
wind-swept coastal experience.
Back at the Wyndham Grand, the concierge service handles every detail
— from arranging taxis to reserving restaurants and providing local
insider tips. Guests can dip in and out of the resort’s services as needed.
There’s space and privacy, yet a reassuring sense of hospitality whenever
required.
Whether you’re a couple in search of a quiet retreat, a solo traveller
looking for calm and sunshine, or a multi-generational family on holiday
together, this resort works. It’s large enough to o昀昀er everything, yet
never feels impersonal.
