The new Volvo EX30 Cross Country - Designed
for Adventure
Volvo has unveiled the new EX30 Cross Country, a rugged and fully
electric SUV designed for those who seek adventure beyond the city.
The launch took place in a secluded winter cabin in northern Sweden,
featuring a collaboration with outdoor brand Fjällräven. This new model
builds on the success of the EX30, enhancing its capabilities with o昀昀road features that make it ideal for exploring in all weather conditions,
from rain and mud to snow and ice.
The EX30 Cross Country is a fully electric SUV that o昀昀ers an impressive
range of up to 427km with zero tailpipe emissions. Charging is fast and
e昀케cient, with the ability to go from 10 to 80 per cent in just 26 minutes.
Designed for both urban and o昀昀-road environments, the car has been
raised higher o昀昀 the ground compared to the standard EX30, making
it easier to navigate rough terrain. It also comes with all-wheel drive,
ensuring strong traction in challenging conditions. For those who need
even greater o昀昀-road capability, Volvo o昀昀ers an optional set of 18-inch
all-terrain tyres, allowing drivers to tackle countryside and mountain
trails with ease.
The EX30 Cross Country is as stylish as it is functional. The exterior
features a distinctive dark-coloured front shield and boot lid, along with
an exclusive design element—a topographical artwork of the Kebnekaise
mountain range in Arctic Sweden, which has served as inspiration for
Volvo’s designers. Chunky front and rear skid plates and extended wheel
arches give the car a more rugged, adventure-ready look, reinforcing its
ability to handle the elements.
Inside, the car maintains the practicality and smart design of the standard EX30, with thoughtful storage solutions throughout the cabin. The
doors feature large storage compartments, thanks to the integration
of the speakers into a soundbar on the dashboard. The central storage
tunnel between the driver and passenger is versatile, sliding forward
to serve as a cupholder or back to provide additional storage. Rear
passengers also bene昀椀t from a removable, washable storage box, which
can double as a waste bin. At the rear, the boot lid includes a handy ‘Will
it 昀椀t?’ guide, allowing drivers to check exactly how much gear they can
pack for their journey.
The EX30 Cross Country is packed with advanced technology and safety
features, in keeping with Volvo’s reputation. Google is built into the car’s
system, providing access to Google Maps, making it easier than ever to
navigate to remote destinations. The Volvo EX30 app allows drivers to
pre-condition the car while they are still out in nature, ensuring a warm
and comfortable interior upon their return. As with all Volvo models,
safety is a top priority. The car includes collision prevention technology,
such as braking and steering support to help avoid obstacles, pedestrians, and cyclists. A driver-monitoring sensor detects signs of distraction
or fatigue, prompting alerts to keep the driver focused and safe.
To complement the EX30 Cross Country, Volvo is launching a Cross
Country Experience, aimed at enhancing the outdoor lifestyle for
owners. This includes access to a dedicated accessory package featuring a load carrier, roof basket, all-terrain tyres, and mud昀氀aps, o昀昀ering
additional functionality for those who want to embrace an adventurous
lifestyle. More bespoke o昀昀ers will be announced in the future.
Jim Rowan, CEO of Volvo Cars, emphasised that the EX30 Cross
Country is not just a car but an entire ecosystem designed to support
exploration. “We know that more and more people are seeking ways to
get closer to nature,” he said. “With our new Cross Country Experience,
we aim to create an entire ecosystem around these models, supporting
our customers as they embrace adventure.”
Now available to order in select markets, the Volvo EX30 Cross Country
o昀昀ers a compelling combination of safety, comfort, and performance in
a vehicle built for both urban streets and untamed landscapes. Deliveries are set to begin in Spring 2025, with UK-speci昀椀c details to be
announced at a later date.
