London in the 18th Century,
A stunning new illustrated large format book has carefully restored the
昀椀rst o昀케cial map of London in modern history - John Roque’s famous
1746 map of London, street by street and in painstaking detail. Roque’s
map, displayed throughout the book in 24 sections, is brought to life
with an accompanying history and contemporary illustrations, exploring
what life in Georgian London was like at the time, while identifying
streets and buildings which still exist and plotting the course of major
thoroughfares yet to come. Each section of Roque’s detailed map reveal
the stories of di昀昀erent areas of London, at a time when Bermondsey was
the centre of Ropemaking, there were watchmakers in Clerkenwell and
weavers in Spital昀椀elds, where Marylebone 昀椀elds was an area of scrubland used for duels and hampered by highway men, whilst Bloomsbury
had fresh water springs that were fed to water nearby Holborn.

Prince Edward to Make a Comeback
The team behind one of West London’s most celebrated restaurants,
Julie’s, is set to lead the reinvention of the site of The Prince Edward, a
historic Notting Hill pub on Prince’s Square. A longstanding neighbourhood 昀椀xture, the Victorian building will be thoughtfully restored and
reimagined as a relaxed, all-day pub, blending its rich heritage with the
signature warmth, attention to detail and understated style that have
made Julie’s such a local favourite. Led by owner Tara MacBain, Chef
Patron Owen Kenworthy and General Manager Rupert Walsh, the project will bring a modern, ingredient-led approach to classic British pub
dining, alongside a carefully curated drinks programme and interiors by
Rosanna Bossom that honour the building’s original character.
