West London’s Most
Tranquil Day Spas
Cloud Twelve, Notting Hill
Nestled in the deliciously quaint Colville Mews, a trip to Cloud Twelve
always feels like a journey of discovery, even for those well-acquainted
with this local gem. With an on-site café and crèche, Cloud Twelve o昀昀ers
a range of traditional wellness spa facilities alongside more cutting-edge
bio-hacking treatments, meaning there really is something for everyone.
We tried out the near infrared blanket, which came recommended by
Cloud Twelve’s friendly and informative sta昀昀. This 45-minute therapy is
proven to reduce in昀氀ammation and boost collagen production, amongst
a plethora of other bene昀椀ts. Followed by a truly tranquil session in the
thermal suite, Cloud Twelve’s spa o昀昀er proved to be a stress-busting
sanctuary.
Starting in the Himalayan Salt Cave, with puri昀椀ed air to promote
respiratory function, we then proceeded to the beautiful rose sauna
and steam room (both of which were heated to optimum temperatures)
before taking a quick shower and dunking our limbs in the ice bath. The
meditation lounge - with guided mindfulness available on the provided headphones – was the perfect place to regulate body temperature
between spa sessions. We were also seriously impressed by the range of
in-house herbal remedies formulated by Jenya Di Pierro.

Sweat Lounge, Chiswick
Arriving at Sweat Lounge feels like checking into a chic single room at
a boutique hotel, only you’ll feel more rejuvenated after half an hour
in your infrared sauna pod than you would after a good night’s sleep
anywhere else.
The only studio of its kind in London, Sweat Lounge o昀昀ers the
detoxifying sweat of a traditional sauna at the same time as the
therapeutic bene昀椀ts of infrared rays spread all over your body. Founder

mitochondrial function. Somehow, it’s reassuring to know that the
science behind the kit was developed to promote the bodily endurance
of astronauts rather than simply as a beauty industry fad.
For me, there was an instant boost in terms of stress reduction,
improved complexion and enhanced mood, which lasted for several
days. Circulatory issues, including pins-and-needles, were noticeably
improved within twenty-four hours. With regular use, as reported by
one of the most regular Sweat Lounge lizards, this sense of enormous
wellbeing only gets better. The only downside seems to be, that what
with being so relaxed, visitors can experience a sopori昀椀c e昀昀ect, which
is why later sessions are so popular. Our advice? Book late to avoid
nodding o昀昀 in brie昀椀ngs.

Thai Square Spa
There was a time not so long ago when Thai massage parlours were
dotted all around the centre of London. Now there are relatively few,
and hardly any as central as Thai Square Spa, located right by
Trafalgar Square. That said, it could be Piccadilly Circus outside and
you’d never notice, given the tranquillity of this subterranean hideaway, complete with sauna, steam room and relaxation pool.
Thai massage is often associated with a more extreme, high-pressure
treatment, designed to focus on deep tissue repair, but at Thai Square
Spa, it’s the “herbal healer” massage which makes the experience
stand out as something di昀昀erent. Using hot compresses, the treatment
combines a gentle oil-based massage (more synonymous with Swedish
practice) with sensations not dissimilar to hot stone.
