25th Year for H H-H
Hazlitt Holland-Hibbert, a leading gallery in Modern and Contemporary
British art will celebrate their 25th anniversary next year. The gallery
is closely associated with Freud, Hockney, Auerbach, Bridget Riley and
other leading artists. Patrick Heron, a luminary of post-war British art
celebrated for his expansive, colour-drenched paintings, whose remarkable career spanned nearly six decades is the featured artist for May.
Featuring paintings from the artist’s estate - including several never before exhibited - alongside loans from museums and private collections,
the exhibition o昀昀ers fresh insight into a formative chapter between 1950
and 1954 when the artist negotiated his own path between 昀椀guration
and abstraction. During these years, Heron’s practice was animated by
sustained engagement with the masters of the School of Paris, particularly Braque, Matisse, and Bonnard, whose preoccupations with plastic
and spatial values, and above all colour as space, became the foundation
of his own emerging visual language.
