Somewhere Island
Ultra-Luxury Resort Opens in the Maldives
As 2026 unfolds, the Maldives has gained a rare new entry into its
highest echelon of luxury. Somewhere Island — the 昀椀rst expression
of the .Here Baa Atoll Maldives project — has now begun welcoming
guests within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll. Its sister
island, Nowhere, will follow later this year. Between them are just
nine private residences, placing .Here among the most exclusive, lowdensity resorts in the entire country — and arguably one of its most
luxurious.
Where many Maldivian resorts still lean towards spectacle,
Somewhere Island takes a more assured path: it delivers extraordinary
scale, privacy and design, but with a deliberate quietness. What sets
it apart is not just the calibre of its architecture or materials, but the
sheer generosity of space — vast residences that combine beachfront
and overwater living in a single sweep, suspended sky in昀椀nity pools
stretching up to 47 metres, and horizons that seem to belong solely
to you.
Inside, the interiors by Muza Lab speak the language of true
re昀椀nement — not gilded or ostentatious, but crafted with exquisite
restraint. Hand-selected natural materials, bespoke furnishings, and
artisanal detailing give each residence the feel of a private coastal
home rather than a hotel suite. Luxury here is measured by privacy,
silence, and the con昀椀dence to let design breathe.
Service follows the same philosophy. Each residence is supported by
a dedicated Roohu — a butler, yes, but better described as a highly
attuned private host. Nothing feels transactional; instead, needs are
anticipated with intuition born from experience. A private dinner
materialises on your deck just as the sky turns lilac; the boat is ready
before you’ve decided which reef to explore; a massage takes place
steps from your own pool as if by instinct rather than arrangement.
Culinary direction is led by Executive Chef Georgios Vasilopoulos,
whose nearly twenty years of international experience at world-class
hotels shows in every detail. Safar, the island’s restaurant and bar,
o昀昀ers dishes where precision and indulgence walk hand-in-hand —
a subtle layering of global technique and Indian Ocean 昀氀avour. Yet
some of the most memorable meals happen privately: starlit tasting
menus on your terrace, paired with the hush of the lagoon and wine
selections that fully embrace the resort’s uncompromising approach
to quality.
